Orange Creme

There is something about orange creme that makes me think of the 1950’s. It is an amazing flavor that allows me to find myself  in a soda shop drinking an orange milk shake, wearing a extremely cute swing dress…even if it just for a second. Just so happens that my dad was born in the 1950’s and his birthday is Wednesday. He absolutely loves this fudge.  It tastes like a delightful dreamsicle. The flavor is amazing for spring and summer…or even perhaps a blizzard.

Orange Creme Fudge

1-1/2 teaspoons plus 3/4 cup butter, divided

3 cups sugar

3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

1 (12 oz) package vanilla chips

1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme

3 teaspoons orange extract

10 drops yellow food coloring

4 drops red food coloring

Grease a 13-in. x 9-in. pan with 1-1/2 teaspoons butter and set aside. If you want to line your 13×9 with foil, it makes for great clean up. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, cream and remaining butter. Cook and stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 4 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in chips and marshmallow creme until smooth. You will have to move pretty quickly because the fudge begins to set pretty quickly.

Remove 1 cup and set aside. Add orange extract and food coloring to the remaining mixture; stir until blended. Pour into prepared pan. Drop reserved marshmallow mixture by tablespoonfuls over the top; cut through with a knife to swirl. Cover and refrigerate until set. Cut into squares.
